PIN DROP

{YouTube illusionist Brusspup, who created the Crazy Chair Illusion we recently spotted, is back with another inimitable video. This one isn't so much an illusion, per se, as it is a testament to the power of persistence. And a long attention span. And a LOT of free time. Using Photoshop to break a digital photo down to a mere five colors, Brusspup assigned a shade of plastic pushpin to each color, and then got to work. Spending over one hundred hours spread out over a month, he assembled a mind-blowing 15,000 pins — each one functioning as a 'pixel' in the larger image — and caught the whole process on time-lapse video. A picture is worth a thousand words, or, in this case, 15,000 pushpins.} ~http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/unplugged/pin-tastic-portrait-sharp-tack-232209461.html

Boogie Frantick

My brother Ricardo “Boogie Frantick” Rodriguez Jr. is one of the illest poppers/dancers out there, definitely.KEEPINTIGHT. as one of my Top 5 favorites. I chatted him up a bit in an interview, FunnyBones Por Vida!

Boogie Frantick is sporting Panic 39. Cop Panic @ http://www.curbservin.com/

1. What LXD episodes are you featured in?
{There are} 2 episodes I come out in:

And

2. When did you start dancing?
A. Poppin?
I started to dance when I was 3 years old from what my mother has shared. I had that new jack flava lol. But poppin, well that I came across when I was 9 years old..
3. Who’s your OG/original teacher?
I never really had a teacher but there was really only one guy who helped me the most and I consider him more of a mentor. He is Zulu King DJ Hazze.
4. What dancer out there inspires you the most?
I would have to say every one that I have worked with. Mostly (inspiration comes from) the BBoyz though to be honest. These guys are machines in human form and not robotic but their body’s can take so much stress and they train so freakin hard… But I’ve worked with so many styles From Contemporary to Krump all have their own way of technique and its amazing how crazy these people are when the music turns on.
5. Do you teach regularly? When & where?
I really don’t teach but I help in any way I can. I’m working on something for next year. I would love to do like a tour or something but I still have a lot to figure out when it comes to my style. Only because it is so free. I mostly train people out of my own home though. It’s more of a practice session where I get to test their might. Push their mental game to new limits and show them how much more the mind can expand when it comes to different styles of music.
6. What crews are you affiliated with & are you the founder of any of them?
I am from: Zulu Kings, Gstyle and Funnybones Crew. I still affiliate with Air Force Crew, Whiz Kidz Wrecking Krew, and will always support Skill Methodz which I had to walk out of due to a conflict of interest, but I am still family just not from the crew anymore.
7. What commercials/movies/music videos have you done besides LXD?
I have yet to do a commercial but as far as a list of shows:
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE – LXD – DEC 2009
TED TALKS – LXD – FEB 2010
THE ACADEMY AWARDS – LXD – MAR 2010
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE – STEP UP 3D – AUG 2010
STEP UP 3D FILM – AUG 2010
CONAN O’BRIEN – LXD – DEC 2010
JIMMY FALLON – STEP UP 3D – AUG 2010
8. Do you have groupies!? Bwahahahaha! How you liking that?
OMG… I honestly don’t know even though I do hear that I am some favorites and the Club I perform at. But I do not go out to seek I keep it dance and rock the show! I appreciate any support to the fullest. Even phone numbers lol…
9. What do you want to say to all dancers out there?
STAY HUMBLE TO OTHERS AND TO YOURSELF. DO NOT THINK YOU ARE ABOVE ANYONE ELSE. SOMEONE ALWAYS NEEDS A HAND OR SOME KIND OF INSPIRATION. JUST BECAUSE SOME OF US HAVE WORKED LONGER DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE BETTER. SHARE THE INFO OR SEEK THE INFO TO SHARE. NEVER LIMIT YOURSELF TO ONE STYLE ALWAYS MAKE TIME TO GROW AND NEVER WORRY ABOUT WHAT LOOKS WRONG JUST WORRY ABOUT HOW YOU CAN MAKE IT LOOK BETTER. KEEP IT REAL, KEEP IT RAW, SHUT UP AND DANCE!!
10. What kind of music do you get down to most? What is your favorite style of music? Who are your favorite bands/singers/producers?
EVERYTHING!! I am not kidding yo. I have Classical, Dubstep, Reggae, Metal, Oldies, Trip Hop, Leftfield, DrumNBass, Soul, R&B, Funk, Classic Rock, Jazz, AfroCuban, Hip Hop and Rap, IDM, geesh so much I cannot remember lol…

DJ VADIM

When I 1st started buying records back in 96′ I already knew I was a NINJA TUNE fiend. Ninja Tune was founded by COLDCUT’s Jonathan More and Matt Black in 1990. The record label houses a variety of artists I have collected & adore to this very day. The music Ninja Tune puts out is considered experimental, down tempo, & trip hop. I think the genres encompassed are much more diverse, & can not be fit into a mold. Experimental in my opinion could technically be any & all types of music. If you check out more tracks released by NINJA TUNE you’ll better understand what I am talking about.

DJ VADIM is an absolute all time favorite DJ/producer of mine. I still remember the day I copped U.S.S.R. It also marked the 1st time I ever heard a track by YArah Bravo his wife (she is worth a whole article herself). Vadim always comes back out doing his already classic tracks with more soul-funk for your eardrum. Below is a free download of his MIX 4 GIANTSTEP.net, the mixtapes features Zion I, Busta Rhymes, KRS1 drops, & many more. CHhhheck ckeck… check it out!

VAMPIRE FISH

Imagine 6 inch fangs piercing your epidermis, those bad boys could easily puncture a main artery. The payara's chompers are actually used to hunt piranhas with its predatory instinct. This game fish rooted in Orinoco River in Venezuela and the Amazon basin, can reach up to 47" inches longitude and weigh in at about 40lbs. I deem the payara catch of the week!

Mixin' It Up

{In 1997, Latyrx’s debut Latyrx (The Album) changed the very idea of what Bay Area underground hip-hop could sound like. Fifteen years later, Lyrics Born is still changing minds and waking up ears as a solo artist, and still working with the other half of the Latyrx duo, Lateef the Truthspeaker, who guests on his new mixtape, Variety Show Season Five.

Set to drop at the end of this month, Season Five is unlike any of Lyrics Born’s previous Variety Show mixes. All of the remixes are two-step and boogie, mixed by DJ Icewater. The Japanese-born, Berkeley-raised rapper revisits songs like “Later That Day,” “As You Were,” “Overnight Encore,” and “The Bay.” Besides his former partner in Latryx, Lyric Born’s guests on the new one include Far East Movement’s Proh, Sam Sparro (their collaboration “Coulda Woulda Shoulda” is mashed up here with Teena Marie’s “Square Biz”), Trackademicks, Francis & the Lights and more. } ACTIVATE

TURNTABLE LAB

I got my own bank account when I was 15 – I have been a devoted INTERNET SHOPPER since. You just can’t find the dopest, iLLest, gear, vinyl, kicks, etc. by simply frequenting your local mall or record store. (The internet is worldwide BABY! Not to mention 24/7.)  One of my favorite online stores is TURNTABLE LAB, est. 1999. Been a regular customer there since early 2001; the guys there really put in work and I respect their musical opinions. Back when I first started shopping there they mostly carried underground hip hop, down tempo/ambient, and turntablist-based music. Now, they have expanded to an electro, house, Baltimore club, indie disco feel – I believe this is mostly because hip hop is boring @ the moment and other genres are still doin’ it up. (Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HARDCORE underground hip hop head! I can bust all elements, because it’s a lifestyle not a hobby, but I can’t remember the last time I was impressed by a hip hop artist… 2008?) Please let me know if you know of any new amazing artists or releases!

You can imagine how I felt when one day I was walking thru the streets of L.A. and there it was… AWWWWeee *shining across the street* AWWWWWeee.… the PHYSICAL location….the ACTUAL store… AAAWWWWEEEE! I had never been to the actual store before and it was as fresh and clean as the website. White walls adorned with posters, clothing racks roomy and open, a few listening stations – it reminded me a lot of an art gallery. Of course the online store has more of a selection then the physical store, but either way, if you are ever in LA/NYC/TOKYO, drop into the TURNTABLE LAB nearest you.

Murs- Think You Know Me

[Chorus:]
You might think that you know me,
You know where I'm coming from,
You might think everything's all good,
But at the end of the day you're all wrong!

[Murs:]
All blue chuck taylors, blue dodger hat,
85 Regal, my daughter in the back.
I'm just a gangsta to most of y'all,
On the real we're just hanging on the way to the mall.
Week days I'm Rn down at kaiser Weekends at church, I'm a youth adviser.
Just because I'm doing good I can't forget my roots,
I can never feel right in a tie & suit.
501's a plain white "t" and I stay gettin' stopped by the LAPD.
That's just life growin' up in south central,
I been done move, but it's not that simple.
I gotta come back, my grandmomma there,
Sometimes it's drama, but I really don't care.
Here's my neighbourhood and I love it,
Showin' all the little homies you can rise above it!

[Chorus:]
You might think that you know me,
You know where I'm coming from,
You might think everything's all good,
But at the end of the day you're all wrong!

[Murs:]
All red chuck taylors and red dodger hat,
Posted up at market with a bottle and gat.
I'm just a gangsta, that's what they say,
But on the real homeboy I just had a bad day.
Ten interviews, no call backs,
PO askin' me where my job at.
I'm an ex-kind and almost juiceless,
I'm a felon, don't mean that I'm stupid.
Got cut op, tribers in the dope
Lost five years of my life as a result.
In the feds I prayed and I read
Anything to keep the system out of my head.
I read zin
You really don't know a damn thing about me.
I probably gotta hire IQ to you,
These jobs ain't hiring, what should I do...

[Chorus:]
You might think that you know me,
You know where I'm coming from,
You might think everything's all good,
But at the end of the day you're all wrong!

[Murs:]
Black dickies, black Cortez,
White wife beater, a fresh shaved head.
I'm just a gangsta, that's what you thinkin',
You see me in the crew, posted up by Lincoln.
You see my tattoos, figure why I bother,
Really I'm an artist and I got my own palla
Hard workin' father, wife and two daughters,
Strugglin', trying to keep our heads above water.
I'm a tax payer, I'm bilingual
I'm chicano, I'm not an illegal.
Tryin' to live your American dream,
But you keep judging me about how I wear my jeans.
They're 42s, they're starched and they greased
I gotta education, I got proper speech.
I'm from the streets, I'm not less of a man,
Just trying to get by and do the best that I can!

[Chorus:]
You might think that you know me,
You know where I'm coming from,
You might think everything's all good,
But at the end of the day you're all wrong!

FoUR LoKo es muy LOCO!

DJ Phonik & I {Mamas} were rockin’ 2×4 session on the wheels of steel @ Flip’s house. Phonik went to his car and comes back with a Mickey’s…. 40oz BABY!!… & a drink I have never seen or heard about… 4Loko.

Apparently The Food&Drug Administration has a Nationwide BAN on the alcohol/energy drink Four Loko, as of December 13th, 2010. The FDA order issued that all of the cans must be sold in a reasonable amount of time. What was the reason for the BAN? The news doesn’t focus on it, but there have been several incidents in which college students were hospitalized after drinking Four Loko.

Everyone @ my house tried this beverage, & it is funny because we all had different opinions. I could feel the energy jitters, Phonik tasted the alcohol, & Flip said it tasted like lemonade. HAHAHA… FoUr LoKO is not 4 MEeeee!

De La Soul - Me, Myself And I

Me Myself And I Lyrics

[Dove] Mirror mirror on the wall Tell me mirror what is wrong? Can it be my De La Clothes Or is it just my De La Soul What I do ain't make believe People say I sit and try But when it comes to being De La It's just me myself and I It's just me myself and I (repeat 3x) [Posdonus] Now you tease my Plug One style And my Plug One spectacles You say Plug One and Two are hippies No we're not, thats pure Plug Bull Always pushin that we formed an image There's no need to lie When it comes to being Plug One It's just me myself and I It's just me myself and I (repeat 3X) [Dove] Proud, I'm proud of what I am Poems I speak are Plug Two type Please oh please let Plug Two be himself, not what you read or write Write is wrong when hype is written on the Soul, De La that is Style is surely our own thing Not the false disguise of show-biz De La Soul is from the soul And in fact I can't deny Strictly from the Dan called Stuckie And from me myself and I It's just me myself and I (repeat 3X) [Posdonus] Glory Glory Hallelu Glory for Plug One and Two But that glory's been denied By concensing dookie eyes People think they diss my person by stating I'm darkly packed I know this so I point at Q-Tip and he states, 'Black is Black' Mirror mirror on the wall Shovel chestnuts in my path Just keep all nuts twistin up so I don't get an aftermath But if I do I'll calmly punch them in the 4th day of July Cause they tried to mess with third degree That's me myself and I It's just me myself and I (repeat 3X)

FLOWER POWER

I guess you could call me a reincarnated hippie, or mama nature. I am absolutely obsessed with flowers, trees, animals, anything nature themed. When I first laid my eyes upon the work of Sergio Lopez I was intrigued by the beautiful lines of the female form intertwined with the floral, paisley design.

{ Sergio Lopez, born in 1983, is a graduate of the Academy of Art in San Francisco – and is an exemplary painter in a variety of mediums. His artistic knowledge ballooned when he discovered his love of oil painting and charcoal drawing. He filled sketchbook after sketchbook with observations from life as well as drawings from his imagination. The Golden Age illustrators, Bravura painters, contemporary artists, concept designers, graffiti writers, and photographers have been some of his strongest influences in his pursuit of painting. He continues to study by visiting museums and observing the Great Masters, which he strives to learn lessons of beauty from.}

{Sergio continues to work in a variety of mediums and styles. From oil and gouache landscapes, to acrylic illustrations, to nude gesture studies in newsprint, he enjoys it all. Sergio especially enjoys discovering new vistas, setting up his easel, and creating a piece on the spot. He believes there is no better way to discover the truth and essence of a scene than by standing before it and studying it carefully. Sergio is a native of Sonoma County. He finds the area ever-inspiring, and never ceases to find a new gorgeous area no matter how often he explores.} ARTISTADAY

Its artists like this that inspire me to go home & create my own depiction of the imagery I see and feel. Cheers to Michael for the radiant glow he leaves upon all of us in the art world, as well as the viewers.

GearHeads: Car Part Art

James Corbett is a “car part sculptor” who has been sculpting his extremely phenomenal & innovative pieces since early 1999. James is from Ningi, Queensland, Australia. His talent came to light while he was running an auto recycling business in Brisbane. (I was wondering where he got all those phenomenal car parts to work with!)

“The parts themselves are often interesting, some are as much as eighty years old”, says James.

{Whether the purpose of the sculpture is for a private collection, public art, or simply a “must have”, James Corbett’s sculptures are undoubtedly some of the finest examples of assemblage art that you would be likely to encounter anywhere in the world.}

J Carbis x Panic 39 x Mamas

So if you haven’t already noticed I love to play dress UP! There is very few things I love to do more than playing DRE$$ UP. I had the opportunity to work with one of my dearest friends for years, & mutli-talented phenomenon, JOHN CARBIS aka Skip Skoolnik. We absolutely love photo shoot, so going on missions around Phoenix& its surrounding cities is always an adventure. Sometimes slightly illegal, we always find fre$h spots to kill. Whether it’s climbing a mountain, posted up near rabid dogs, or high up on a water tower, we keep upping our creative vibe. John once told me, “Never Stop Growing!” I can honestly say we never have. DARK LOVER

I am absolutely enthralled by J.R. Ward’s Best selling series about the “BLACK DAGGER BROTHERHOOD”. I started with Dark Lover, and I could not put it DOWN! It’s such a GOOD READ I read it in ONLY 3 days! I am not the reading type either.

The series is about an elite group of Vampires, the Brotherhood. They protect their race from these creatures called the Lessers. It is a love, hate, life, and death all rolled into one lusty adventure. With its esoteric and mystifying story line, the book captures your attention to the point where you can not look away. The writing is descriptive and eloquent, mixing the language of both the old world and new.
(I have recently been dubbed the QUEEN OF SMUT due to the fact that I am reading thru these books @ an experienced book-worm pace!) LMFAO!!!

“ In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood. The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.” ~ http://www.jrward.com/

CATCHIN' TAGS

I was walking down the block (cause you know ANYWHERE in CALI parking is a ROYAL BITCH!) where I stumbled upon J & J Autobody. Big up for the urban art display as advertisement on their wall. I rather see some stunning street art over an dirty, industrious wall. I believe the art adds a splash of culture, flavor, & color to the neighborhood. You should go get repairs @ their shop even if it’s just purely because they support the street art.. HAHAHAHA….
